Rude Girl Revue
Unapologetically female. More than just a song lyric, it’s become a mantra for Rude Girl Revue, the all-female ska supergroup featuring members of some of the hottest ska bands on the East Coast, including Hub City Stompers, The Scotch Bonnets, Stop The Presses, The Skluttz and more.
Like Motown revues of the 1960s, Rude Girl Revue is anchored by a tight, eleven-piece band, including a three-horn section and four backing vocalists. The band has many talented lead singers among their ranks and they also invite guest vocalists to sing with them, as well as guest horn players to further strengthen their numbers and arrangements.
The band plays big, original tunes, ska versions of popular feminist anthems and curated, uplifting ska covers. They present themselves as real women, with a beauty that isn’t merely skin deep. Together, their sheer numbers and combined talents and energies have created a crew whose power and potential is undeniable.
The group formed during the pandemic and made their debut at the 2021 SuperNova International Ska Festival, becoming one of the highlights of that year’s festival. Also at SuperNova, the band released a two-song, self-titled digital single, which was re-released as 7” vinyl on Jump Up Records that December.
In 2022, the entire crew flew to England for a featured slot at the Big One 11 Festival and a headlining gig in London. Rude Girl Revue also flew to Colorado that year to open for Hepcat at Ska Brewing’s 27th Anniversary party in Durango, CO.
2023 saw the band releasing singles on Stubborn Records and Specialized compilations and playing another memorable set at SuperNova. This year, Rude Girl Revue will be releasing new music, in addition to playing two sets at this year’s Supernova. One will be backing Queen P, the chanteuse of Los Angeles third-wave rocksteady revivalists Oceans 11, in a tribute to the female legends of Jamaican music.
Rude Girl Revue is on a mission: to inspire women not just to move to the front of the crowd but to see themselves onstage in front of that crowd, to be the change we all want to see in this world, and to play the anthems for that revolution.
